Those pesky anti-woman Catholics.

Did you know that I'm a genius? Bona fide. My IQ is well over 140. It really never comes up, because it never makes much difference. (Well, unless Andrew and I are arguing. I then whip out my genius card and win by default.) Here's the thing. I'm a college-educated, upper middle-class, young, Catholic, genius housewife. A walking anomaly, I tell you. On one hand, I'm a pretty good thinker who pays ridiculous taxes who has done her time in the liberal world. On the other hand, I'm meek, stupid, oppressed by old, white dudes and completely out of touch with the rest of the universe. Can I really be two people in one under-30 body?

Maybe, just maybe, I completely agree with the Catholic Church on this one. Is it possible that the Church has women in mind where the use of contraceptives is concerned? I am just sick to death of hearing from our incredibly woman-friendly society that the Church is anti-woman. Here we have a government hell-bent on sterilizing it's women and removing all aspects of love and dignity from every relationship, and we're being told that the only group of people trying to protect that dignity is the group that's out of touch.

Ladies, ladies, ladies, do you know how oppressed you are? We belong to a country that is so concerned with preventing life, ending life and altering life. Women are the BEARERS of life. We are truly the only ones who can bring light and life to a nation, and we're allowing ourselves to be silenced. Millions of fertile women have been sterilized and told that it's so that they can live life to the fullest. WHO is living life to the fullest? Is it the women who are being altered? Is it the women who are being told that two children is the only answer? Is it the women who are being LIED to and told that the child within them is a mere blob of tissue? Who's reaping the benefits here? In a body that is created to bear life, how can the soul not die a little when that life is snuffed out?

Contraception is a pretty amazing thing, isn't it? All the sex you want, all the time. For that matter, all the sex anyone wants. Even dudes. Win-win, right? Fancy that - a country full of women who can't get pregnant and believe that the government cares. A country full of women who believe that abortion is a simple, harmless procedure. Who's being fooled now?

Who's being lied to, here? The women who believe that contraception is for their own good, or the women who are being told they're better than that? Which group of old white guys is really doing the damage? The ones who are offered government assistance for abortions and sterilizations, or the ones begging women to keep their dignity?

Could just be me, though. That's what happens to us Catholic housewives. Once you're totally oppressed, you start believing your oppressors actually care...
