Happy 4th of July!

So we heard that a nearby town was going to be celebrating America's 234th birthday in high style. I will grant you, we went out of morbid curiosity, as this town is the size of my thumbnail.
And let me tell you...it was something.

Here are the festival grounds, 45 minutes before the parade kicked off.

Right side!

And here are the townfolk, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the parade. No joke. We drove up the parade starting point. There were 2 horses and 2 classic cars. There was a little card table with a very festive sign that read "registration." Other than that, there were very few signs of a parade. 30 minutes before parade time.

To be fair, there was another group on the other side of the street.

And the Bad Boys of Destiny were peddling their goods, so it was a big win all around. (As is made very clear by the bad boy in the foreground. Deck shoes + black socks = bad boy.)

Molly says, "Get me out of here, nerd!"

So...we went to Albertsons and bought Lucy three balloons in lieu of the thrill of parade-spectating.

And then we giggled all night long at the memory of our 4th of July celebration.

So today, we started over.

We watched the Capitol 4th on PBS - super fun!

And then we put the Party Animal to bed and went outside for some little firecrackers and poppers and whatnot.

All in all, we made it fun even without a "parade." Maybe next year we'll head back to this little Texas town for the fireworks!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY, AMERICA!

God Bless this great nation, the people whose dreams built her and the people who keep her liberty and freedoms alive today.

"When an American says that he loves his country, he means not only that he loves the New England hills, the prairies glistening in the sun, the wide and rising plains, the great mountains, and the sea.  He means that he loves an inner air, an inner light in which freedom lives and in which a man can draw the breath of self-respect."  ~Adlai Stevenson
