For Sale, Y'all!

Today, the "For Sale" sign is going up on our beloved Cape Cod. You may ask, "Laura, why on earth are you selling a house you've only been in for a year?" The simple answer would be "We're sort of flipping it." The long answer is this:

We are probably going to be relocating within 6 months to a year. There's about 99.9% chance of that. 6 months from now would put our house on the market in the late fall, leaving it to probably sit for the entire winter while we grudgingly pay the mortgage on it until next Spring. Well, that's not cool, is it? So we're listing it now in order to take advantage of the $8k first time homebuyers inventive that will be over in November, and since the market up here is completely non-competitive right now, we're hoping it will work to our advantage. We'd rather be in a rental for the next few months while Andrew secures a new job, rather than be trying to get out from under this house at a bad time of year.

I have mixed feelings. I'm up for a change. Andrew and I are always willing to try something new. This house was our perfect first house and we love it so much. We're terribly attached and selling is going to be difficult. But, Andrew's career has to come first for the next 5 years or so, while he works up the ladder a bit. We knew we'd probably have to relocate to go where the opportunities are, and we're okay with that. But this house has been a dream to live in and it was home from the moment we turned the key in the door. So, it's sad, but it's a necessity.
